Combined solution will enable cloud and enterprise networks to deliver world-class storage, networking and compute performance, in a compact form factor

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 13, 2018 – Solarflare, a pioneer in the development of neural-class networks, and Smart IOPS, an innovative leader in flash storage, today announced that the companies will demonstrate a new high-performance NVMe over TCP storage appliance this week at the Supercomputing 2018 conference today through Nov. 15 in the Smart IOPS booth #2013, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Designed for cloud and enterprise datacenters, the new Transformer storage appliance leverages state of the art technology to deliver a highly performant, cost-optimized solution in an efficient form factor.

The new Transformer appliance integrates Smart IOPS’s Data Engine™ T2 high-performance PCIe NVMe SSD, Solarflare’s XtremeScale® X2 100GbE network adapter and Onload® kernel bypass acceleration software, incorporated in a Wistron Transformer G2 rack server. The combined solution offers 6 million random IOPS, 25GB/s raw data bandwidth and storage capacity scaling up to 120TB and beyond, in a compact 1U form factor; featuring 100Gbps of network connectivity. This unique combination of capacity, performance and size makes the Transformer storage appliance one of the fastest and highest storage density solutions available on the market.

Industry-Ready NVMe over TCP Technology
The new Transformer appliance is built on NVMe over TCP technology that dramatically improves bandwidth, IOPS and latency for high performance applications. By leveraging the native Ethernet TCP transport ubiquitous in every data center, NVMe over TCP eliminates the need for unique, additional protocols to deliver the same performance, usability and streamlined deployment benefits associated with more complicated proprietary networks, but at a lower cost. Solarflare is a co-contributor to the NVMe over TCP specification, which is expected to be ratified before the end of 2018.

Smart IOPS Data Engine™ SSDs – Unmatched Performance
Smart IOPS designs and manufactures solid-state devices that use Smart IOPS’ unique TruRandom™ technology to deliver the world’s fastest and lowest latency NVMe-based storage solutions. Smart IOPS’ Data Engine SSDs are targeted for data center, cloud computing and high-performance computing (HPC) applications. The unmatched performance of the SSDs greatly enhances machine learning, data analytics, artificial intelligence, content delivery, and caching capabilities and numerous other performance critical tasks for storage making them ideal for next generation data crunching needs. The Data Engine T2 line of SSDs are available in capacities ranging from 3TB to 25TB and boast industry leading 1700K random read IOPS, 600K random write IOPS, and 6800MB/s of random and sequential read speeds. The SSDs are offered both in AIC HHHL and U.2 form factors.

“We are excited to bring a truly unique storage appliance product to market in collaboration with Wistron and Solarflare,” said Ashutosh Das, President and CEO, Smart IOPS. “It shows our commitment to being at the forefront of technology and recognize the importance and value of NVMe over Fabric-based storage solutions.”

Solarflare XtremeScale Networking – Ultra-scale Connectivity
For modern data centers, Solarflare’s family of XtremeScale 10/25/40/50/100GbE X2 network adapters, enable ultra-scale connectivity to thousands of virtual networks, while at the same time provide real-time packet and flow information.

“We are pleased to partner with Wistron and Smart IOPS to demonstrate a cost-effective, low-latency NVMe storage appliance ideal for cloud customers who want to combine readily-available hardware and software to define their own high performance storage solutions,” said Ahmet Houssein, VP of Marketing and Strategic Development, Solarflare. “NVMe over TCP technology is an industry game changer, allowing cloud and enterprise data center customers to scale-out flash storage without degradation in performance.”

Wistron Transformer G2 Storage Server – Performance and Density
Wistron has designed Transformer G2 storage appliance keeping density and ease of operation in mind. The appliance features four front loading, hot pluggable bays that offer PCIe Gen3x16 connectivity and enables ease of maintaining high performance PCIe NVMe storage add-in-cards. In addition, there are two more PCIe sockets available at the back of the chassis for plugging-in network interface cards. When combined with Smart IOPS’ high capacity drives the storage appliance can pack a whopping 120TB+ of capacity in a 1U compact form factor making the storage appliance one of the densest and highest performing storage solutions in the market.
